Thank a Farmer fills mental tank

An all-expenses paid weekend in Melbourne for farmers to spend some time away from their farms was given to 30 people recently, including two from Jarrahmond.

Run by a couple in Melbourne, Mark and Lauren Oliver, who also run the groups Mums Who Wine and Dads Who Wine, the Thank A Farmer Event is about creating a space for farming mums and dads to come together, connect and invest in their selfcare and mental health.

We wanted to create a space to get farming mums and dads away with a friend to refill their cups because we know that when they go back home, their families are going to benefit, their communities are going to benefit and it will be really far reaching,” Lauren Oliver said.

With the Mums Who Wine events proving to be so popular in regional areas like Ballarat, Bendigo and Horsham, Ms Oliver said it had really shifted her focus.

"Motherhood can be really isolating. In the city it can be tough and difficult but for mums and dads in rural farming communities they're not only enduring that but also have to deal with physical isolation and tough working conditions," she said.

She recently organised a Thank A Farmer weekend which involved spoiling a group of farming mums, nominated by a friend or family member, by taking them on an all expenses paid weekend to Melbourne.

Thank a Farmer Mums in Stock & Land

Thank you to Stock & Land for the wonderful article, written by one of our farming mums Marian Macdonald. This was an incredible event and weekend, purely focussed on giving back to our farming mums.

This event could not have happened without the support of our Presenting Partner Condor Corporate Leisure and our Supporting Partners Perpetual Limited, Melbourne Public, Limo Rental Melbourne and Anna K. Photography.
